THE 52 - MUSEUM OF TORONTO

Proud to be one of the 52 performers involved in this fascinating long-term project, in which I will be sharing the inspiring story of contemporary arts advocate Jeanne Parkin in a monologue written by Ali Joy Richardson.

Here’s some info about The 52: Stories of Women Who Transformed Toronto, with a link to the Museum of Toronto website below:

Women currently make up 52% of the population in Toronto. Join us as we bring their stories to life.
This impact-filled multi-year project celebrates the myriad of ways women have contributed to various facets of city life – in art, culture, politics, sports, technology, business, and more. To tell these important stories, this project has commissioned 24 exemplary playwrights to write 52 monologues – one for each transformational woman on our list.

HART’S CROSSING GENERAL STORE

Thrilled to announce that I have received a Recommender Grant for Theatre Creators from Port Stanley Theatre Festival, thanks to the support of the Ontario Arts Council and the Government of Ontario. It’s for a new play - my first full length comedy! Writing is in full swing and I’m excited to see where the characters in Hart’s Crossing General Store take me.

EXCITING HARTS CROSSING UPDATE!

I’m absolutely thrilled to share that HARTS CROSSING will be part of the Simon Joynes Playwrights’ Festival at Port Stanley Festival Theatre in September!. Tickets are FREE!

Incredibly grateful to the Ontario Arts Council for a Theatre Recommender Grant (Port Stanley Festival Theatre) the Government of Ontario and to my wonderful playwriting doulas Paula Wing and Liz Gilroy.

As an emerging playwright, this is my professional debut and I’m in very good company. The other featured playwrights are Steven Gallagher (DEADLY MEMORIES) and Norm Foster (SHIP TO SHORE).

Casting news will be announced shortly. To quote the character of Beth: “Eeeeeeee!”

p.s. The cottage town general store in HARTS CROSSING was completely inspired by Purk’s Place in beautiful Bala, Ontario. As I wrote in the play, Hart’s Crossing General Store is “…your one-stop shop for everything summer.”

PLAYWRIGHTS GUILD of CANADA - TOM HENDRY AWARDS!

As announced on CBC’s PlayME podcast by the wonderful Jillian Keiley…I was shortlisted for the RBC Emerging Playwright Award for my first play THE SHIVERS. This was a tremendous honour, which I shared with Trisha Harlan and Iris Rhian. Jamie Robinson’s students at York University’s School of the Arts, Media, Performance & Design directed scenes from our plays on October 23rd at TPL’s beautiful Reference Library. Lisa Randall directed Natalie Maddy and Alexei DeLuca in the Chapel scene from THE SHIVERS. The full ceremony is available on the Playwrights Guild of Canada YouTube page. Congrats to Trisha Harlan for her winning play SYNCOPATION ON TERAULEY STREET!

CK Cultural Hall of Fame

On September 24th, I was inducted into the Chatham Kent Cultural Hall of Fame for my contribution to the Performing Arts. I was born in Chatham, Ontario. We lived there because my late father Sandy Hoyt was working at CFCO Radio. Since I hadn't been there since I was very young, it was lovely to check out downtown Chatham with a dear friend. What a thrill to meet the other inductees and to learn more about the two legacy award winners. Thanks to the Chatham Kent Arts Council for their warm welcome and an unforgettable evening.
